FAVG frequency – 120.6

Special Rules Area frequency – 124.2

FAVG circuit altitude – 800 ft

Traffic routing coastwise – North 1500 ft

Traffic routing coastwise – South 1000 ft

To and from General Flying Area

TO

  • Route southbound to be abeam the Harbour Entrance at 1000 ft
  • At the Harbour Entrance, advise Virginia and broadcast intentions on 124.2
  • Turn inland and enter the GFA at Amanzimtoti and broadcast intentions on 124.4

FROM

  • Exit the GFA abeam the Illovo River mouth at 1500 ft and give Virginia a call on 120.6 to obtain joining instructions. And then continue broadcasting intentions on 124.2
  • At the Harbour Entrance, contact Virginia on 120.6 and join the circuit for landing

FAVG to northern KZN

All VFR traffic wishing to route seawards of the coastline, transiting the King Shaka CTR, are to remain seawards of the coastline at 500FT AMSL, or as instructed by ATC. VFR traffic transiting through the King Shaka CTR at 500FT AMSL are then deemed to be separated from departing and arriving traffic at King Shaka Airport. All transiting traffic is regarded as circuit traffic, thus reduced separation minima can be applied, in the vicinity of the aerodrome.

Traffic without transponder to route via Ndwedwe, remaining clear of the Durban TMA, then to the right of the Alvaston Mast, (cross abeam the Alvaston Mast below 5000FT AMSL) then route direct to the Coopers Lighthouse. Cross abeam Pinetown at or below 3000FT AMSL, cross the N2 at 1500FT AMSL. Establish
communication with Virginia prior to crossing the N2. If no contact, enter into a VFR hold, at 1500FT at Coopers Lighthouse till a joining clearance has been obtained.

The clearance shall only be valid during daylight hours, in VMC operations, in communication with ATC and the aircraft shall be Mode-C transponder equipped.

Pilots to comply with the Aviation Legislation, as described in General Operating and Flight Rules. Following line features Regulation 91.06.08.

Northern KZN to FAVG

  • All VFR traffic to route via Blythedale Beach (cross Blythedale Beach below 2000FT AMSL)
  • Then seawards of the coastline at 500FT AMSL, or as instructed by ATC.
  • VFR traffic transiting through the King Shaka CTR at 500FT AMSL are then deemed to be separated from departing and arriving traffic at King Shaka Airport.
  • All transiting traffic is regarded as circuit traffic, thus reduced separation minima can be applied, in the vicinity of the aerodrome.

FAVG Northwest KZN / Gauteng area

  • Route direct to Pinetown, then south of the N3, to the right of the Alvaston Mast, then via Greytown.
  • Cross the N2 below 2000FT AMSL
  • Pinetown below 3000FT AMSL
  • Abeam Alvaston Mast at or below 5000FT AMSL
  • Remain clear of the Durban TMA thereafter.

FAVG to FAPM

  • All VFR traffic to route via the Durban CBD, then South of the N3, to the right of the Alvaston Mast, then via the Nagle Dam.
  • Cross the N2 below 2000FT AMSL
  • Pinetown below 3000FT AMSL
  • Abeam Alvaston Mast at or below 5000FT AMSL.
  • Nagle Dam at or below 5000 FT AMSL

FAVG from FAPM

  • All VFR traffic must route to the right of the Alvaston Mast, (cross abeam the Alvaston Mast below 5000FT AMSL), then route direct to the Coopers Lighthouse
  • Cross abeam Pinetown at or below 3000FT AMSL
  • Cross the N2 at 1500FT AMSL
  • Establish communication with Virginia before Coopers Lighthouse. If no contact, enter into a VFR hold, at 1500FT AMSL at Coopers Lighthouse till a joining clearance has been obtained
